There has been a new trend emerging over the last few years… it is natural cat care. Many cat lovers today are sick and tired of their cats constantly experience ill health or even mediocre health. As reports emerge about the poor quality of most cat foods, many people are looking at alternative methods of wellbeing for their cats.

Unfortunately most cat owners come to realise that something isn’t right when their cats have fallen ill. With some basic understanding about what natural cat care is you can prevent your cat from becoming sick in the first place.

It is important to note here that if you notice symptoms of illness in your cat and are seriously concerned for their wellbeing, then you must contact your veterinarian immediately. While vets don’t always get enthusiastic about natural alternatives for your cat, they are experts at treating already sick animals. If you are in doubt or have serious concerns, don’t hesistate to contact your local vet. Thats what they are there for.

If however, you would like to look at a broader range of options for your moggy then you have come to the right place! There are many great natural methods for caring for your cat. If these can be put in place while your cat is healthy – then chances are they will not fall ill and they will also live a long, happy and healthy life with you.

When learning about natural cat care, it is important to understand a main concept: Holistic cat health. The word holistic means to look at the whole, rather than the part. This is more standard in eastern areas of the world. Western medicine often tends to focus on the part (the symptom) and not take a look at the bigger picture.

If you can zoom out and look at your cats holistic health – you will see two main components. One is the food that your cats consume, and the other is the environment that they live in. As mentioned earlier – many store-bought cat foods have been the target of some very vigorous reports on their quality. And sadly the reports coming back are not good.

The food we are feeding our cats today is barely considered food to be fair. There is little to no nutritional value in store-bought cat foods. And some of the things that can be found within the cat food are appalling. On my website noted below I have written an article about whats actually in cat food. It is well worth a read but it is not for the faint of heart. For the purposes of this article you should know that most traditional cat foods are not good for your moggy and you need to rethink what you are feeding them. Fortunately – I have come up with some great natural alternatives for your cat to eat, which are noted on my website.

For more information about natural cat care and how you can create a better life for your cat – I highly recommend you grab a copy of my FREE minicourse about natural cat care which is available to the right of this page. Check it out right now!

Natural Ideas for Cats

There are many advantages to giving your cat a natural and balanced life through better food and improved environment. If you care for your cat, as I do mine, you will wish to give it the best lifestyle you can.

Unfortunately in our society we have fallen prey to a lack of time, and convenience products are often what we consume to keep on moving with our busy schedules. I refer of course to things such as fast food. Well the same applies for your cat. It is very easy to give in and just feed your cat what most others get, but it really isn’t the best option.

Cat foods that are unnatural and highly processed serve a bare minimum of your cats requirements for good nutrition and wellbeing. In most cases, these unnatural food products can make your cat sick and unhealthy. Think of it like feeding a child fast food for breakfast and dinner. Makes you cringe right? Well our cats need some consideration too…

It would truly disgust you to learn about some of the horrible things that are put into cat food these days. A simplified explanation is that most cat foods contain ‘waste products’ that aren’t suitable for human consumption. These tend to be things like the offcuts, usually pure fat. In some countries – actual cat and dog are ground up and you can find traces of them in pet foods. Combine that with high wheat content (cats are carnivores by nature and shouldn’t be consuming any large amount of wheat) and you have a recipe for disaster.

And to make matters worse for our furry friends, the environments they now live in are generally not hospital for cats. There may be a nearby main road which poses the risk of your cat getting run over. There are loud noises, firecrackers for example which can startle them. And then of course there are often dozens of cats within the same street which can cause some extreme stress for your cat.

So what can be done about all of these unfortunate circumstances? There are actually some very effective natural cat solutions available to you. These include both in terms of the food you feed your cat, and also the environment that you let your cat live in. By taking some time to research this topic and put some basic practices in place, your cat will be much happier and live a much longer life.

If you would like to learn some specific methods and action steps to take to make your cat live a more natural, be sure to grab a free copy of the natural cat health minicourse which is available to the right of this page. Don’t miss it!

Cats Natural Treatment

There may come a time when your beloved cats becomes sick or ill. In times like these it is important to first identify exactly what the symptoms are and have a good understanding about the options for treatment available to you. You can take both the traditional routes for treatment or look at more natural alternatives.

Before looking at any natural treatment for your cat you must be quick in identifying the exact symptoms. If they seem serious or critical to you at all – you should ring your local veterinarian immediately. While vets may not always be enthusiastic about natural treatments, they are experts at helping sick cats become healthy again. In urgent times, always enlist the help of a qualified professional. Better to be safe than sorry with your furry friend!

With that in mind, there are many great options for natural treatments. If you can give your cat a more natural method of healing it is usually more beneficial. The reason eastern medicine has become popular in the developed countries is because it has a clear focus on ‘holistic health’ and also preventative measures. Many of these are also natural and do not require any harsh medications in order to solve the problem. The same can be said for treating your cat.

In order to treat your cat naturally it is important to first understand the concept of ‘holistic health’. This view means looking at the whole of something, instead of one part. Another popular saying is ’seeing the forest for the trees’. Sometimes you need to zoom out and take a look at the bigger picture in order to keep your cat healthy and happy.

There are two main methods of keeping your cat healthy. The first is serving your cat raw, fresh food, made by yourself. While this might seem a bit of a chore at first, once you get to know a few good recipes it will become easy. The benefits to your cat of course are almost beyond measure. If you compare a fresh bowl of red meat with some of the products in the supermarkets – there really is no comparison to begin with.

Secondly, creating a cat friendly environment can go a long way towards increasing the health and wellbeing of your cat. Stress is a common cause of illness in cats – as it is in humans as well. Stress in cats can be caused by a number of factors but some of the common ones are having too many other cats in the neighbourhood (they constantly fight and are on guard all the time), there is often a busy road out the front which will always pose a risk. And in a typical suburban area there just isn’t the same kind of natural environment that cats had many years ago. Unless you live in the country where your cat can chase live game – they are missing out and it is actually harming their health!

Cats Natural Remedy

It is your sole responsibility to be attentive to your cat when it becomes ill. The longer you leave a sick cat unattended, the faster their condition can deterioate until it is too late to do anything at all.

Unlike humans who can tell a caregiver when they are sick, cats can not do this. It is entirely up to you to notice a number of tell-tale signs that something is wrong. If you give your cat the care and attention that should deserve normally – then picking up on a sickness will be easy for you. Once you have identified that something is wrong – fiding a natural remedy for your cats will be easy.

As a side not to all of this, I must stress to you that if you have any doubts about your cats wellbeing and you aren’t sure whether you can manage it – is is important to speak with you local veterinarian immediately. While Vets may not always focus on preventative care for your cat – they ARE experts when it comes to treating a serious illness. So don’t discount their vast knowledge in cat care! If you do wish to contact your vet, make sure that you are specific when describing the symptoms of your cat to them. Too many people ring up the vet and say ‘my cat is acting funny’. The vets have heard this a million times before and it doesn’t help to diagnose the real problem. So be specific and say something like ‘my cat has lost it’s appetite and doesn’t meow anymore’.

Symptoms for sick cats can range greatly. They can be anything from a lack of appetite, to very little moement, mucus like buildup in their eyes or ears, patches of fur missing or even high temperatures. Common sense always comes in handy when noticing problems with your cat. Simply put – if the cat isn’t acting like it’s usual self – something is probably not right! Remember, cats are creatures of habit like us!

In some cases you will find that you can manage your cats illness effecitvely on your own. Cats natural remedy options are many. If you can take the time to do a little bit of research (like you are now) and make some good preparation, caring for your cat will become easy. And of course your cat will always appreciate it!

Cats natural remedies range from what type of food you serve them (is it raw, natural and fresh) to the environment that your cat has to live in (if there are too many cats nearby it can create unnecessary stress).

If you would like some specific examples and action steps you can take towards creating cats natural remedies – then check out my website. If have provided heaps of helpful information to keep your cat healthy.

It is important to notice when your cat isn’t well. The speed at which you notice
any health problems will determine how well they will make a turnaround and get better.

If unnoticed, health problems can become a very serious issue for your and your feline friend. Unfortunately – cats can’t tell you verbally when they are not feeling well, so it is up to you be be attentive and notice when things aren’t right.

Symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, runny nose, mucus-like buildup in their eyes or ears or even a high temperature can be tell-tale signs. Even a dramatic lack of energy (i.e. doesn’t want to exercise at all) is a bad sign.

It is important to note here that if you notice the cat seems to be in a serious state, or even if you aren’t convinced that it is serious – the best course of action of to call your local vet immediately. Vets are trained in health care for your cat. Veterinarians really shine when your cat is actually sick – because that is what they most commonly deal with.

When talking with a vet – be sure to be very descriptive and specific about the problems your cat is having. The most common thing a vet hears by their customers is ‘my cat is acting funny’. While it is a natural reaction to say something like that – it doesn’t help the vet in diagnosing the problem! You need to be specific and say things like ‘my cat has a runny nose and is limping’ as an example.

But of course there are also times when you notice your cat is unwell and you would like to do something about it yourself. There are many different home remedies for cats – and many of those are totally natural. You don’t want to have to drug your cat with medicines that you’re unsure about.

Cat home remedies often require a little preparation and research on the part of you – the owner, but once understood they can be easily applied and your cat will appreciate it. Remedies range from the type of food your cat is eating (whether it is natural and fresh), to the environment that your cat lives in.

Holistic Health: Preventative Care for Your Cat

If you want your cat to look and feel healthy it is important to understand the concept of holistic health. Holistic health means an overall wellbeing for your cat which includes the way they eat, the environment that they live in, and how they are looked after and cared for.

It is not enough to just make sure the food that your cat is eating is healthy. Holistic health for your cat means thinking about all factors that can be beneficial and the factors that can be harmful.

For example, hairballs can be a common problem for your cat. If the problem gets serious – it can lead to intestinal blockage which will often require a trip to the vet. You don’t want to let the cat get to this stage though. Brushing your cat regularly will help to minimize the occurences of furballs. The pet store will have gloves which you can put on while you stroke your cat. These gloves act much like a brush – and your cat will love it!

Also, be sure to check inside your cats ears regularly and in their eyes for built up residue. This can often be an indication that your cat is fighting off an infection. Keep an eye on any conditions you notice, and if they get progressively worse you may want to consider professional help.

Many cats don’t appreciate being held while having their eyes and ears inspected – but this is a necessary and important task. And you will find that as time goes on your cat will get used to it. Again – don’t force your cat to sit still if it is uncomfortable. This will cause more stress and be counterproductive to keeping your cat healthy.

Another important thing to do for your cat is to ensure that their teeth are kept clean. Much like humans, cats get plaque building up on their teeth if not properly maintained. By far the best way to avoid plaque build up on cats’ teeth is to give them raw meat with some bones to chew on. If this isn’t practical then there are a range of good natural teeth cleaning products which can be found at a pet store near you.

One of the most important things of all is to help minimize the stress your cat can experience in it’s day to day life. It sounds somewhat unbelievable that your cat can get stressed – seeing as how they sleep most of the day! Your cat can become stressed though – commonly though loud abrupt noises (firecrackers can cause much harm), and it is also a good idea to make sure your cat isn’t constantly getting into fights with neighbourhood pets. While this may seem like an unavoidable reality for you and your cat – there are ways to keep them safe such as making them inside cats.

I have discussed a few points surrounding holistic health for your cat but there is much more that you haven’t read about yet. I have covered all of the extra details in my FREE eCourse which you can sign up for to the right of this page. Check it out right now!

Preparing Natural Food for Your Cat

Helping your cat transition to a natural and healthy eating regime can be one of the most rewarding things you do. If a cat is healthy, it will be happy and will love you for it. It will be more playful, pur all the time and just have more energy.

If you are interested in preparing natural and healthy food for your cat – it is because you care. Understand that initially this will seem like some effort is required – which is true. However after a short time it will become second nature to you much like any other habit you have formed. And your cats will live longer and happier lives because of it.

What is most important to understand when preparing natural raw food for your cat is WHY it is beneficial in the first place. Cats are born hunters. Just look at the way they move about, stalk birds. Look at their often camouflaged coat! It’s all because they were designed to hunt and eat live prey.

Now consider how most domesticated cats live: they are given kibble and tinned food from the store (even though you can barely call it food). They don’t have to do fight for it, and when they do eat it, it isn’t providing the nutrition it should. This makes for an unhappy kitty. Think about the single act of hunting down prey – this one thing stimulates parts of a cats mind that makes it feel happy and well.

When a cat has to hunt and kill it’s prey – the cat’s digestive system is activated in the process and means the cat will benefit more from it’s meal.

Although you can’t always simulate this environment, there are key things you can do to go a long way towards that for your cat.

One thing that cats love is when you give them larger pieces of raw meat which they can tear apart slowly. This alone will activate their digestive system and make it a more satisfying meal.

Meat grinders are popular among cat lovers. They assist you in processing raw meat. Sometimes you can cut it up into large chunks, while other times you can grind it down some more and mix it in with puree’d vegetables.

It is always important to include the right supplements with your homemade cat food. Calcium supplements for cats are a good example. Talk to your local veterinarian and explain what you are doing. Don’t expect every Vet to be totally supportive of your move to a more natural diet however (many Vets make money selling various cat foods and products).

If you’re reading this, chances are you have come to realise just how unhealthy many store-bought cat foods can be. And if you’re anything like myself, you care enough for your cat that you want to know that they are eating the right foods so that they can avoid many common ailments and be happy and healthy.

I am going to discuss a simple method for transitioning your cat from an unhealthy diet to a natural and raw diet.

The first thing to realise is that cats are much like us – they are creatures of habit. And if your cat is older, it may require a bit more effort and patience on your part to help them move to a healthier diet. Your cat will have a natural reluctance to change, some more so than others. What is most important is to go at the cat’s own pace, and never force them into a new way of eating. Make sure that they are always eating SOMETHING on a daily basis!

As the caregiver of your cat – it is important that you believe fully in the new eating regime yourself. Cats can sense subtle changes in the way you act around them including your body language. If you put out a new meal for them and you feel uncertain and worried about what might happen – your cat will pick up on this. In order to avoid this from happening – take the time to recognise exactly why you are making the change, and all the positive reasons for it. Almost instantly, all anxiety will disappear and your cat won’t be concerned either.

Also, you should create scheduled times of day where food is actually served. For example at 7:30am through to 8:00am in the morning, and 6:00pm to 6:30pm in the evenings. Once the cat realises that this is the only time food is available they will come to appreciate anything that is served during this time. Let’s not forget that cats are great hunters too, so they might sneak in a tasty mouse in between meals!

Another technique for helping cats transition include mixing in raw and natural food with their standard cat food. Slowly but surely take the old food out of the dish – your cat won’t know it happened! Be sure to serve cat food at body temperature – as this is what cats prefer. Don’t be afraid to use portion control for raw meat, and freeze the portions to avoid waste (using ice cube containers works well).

You should always go at your cat’s pace. Never force them into a diet whether it’s healthy or not. Your cat must continue to eat SOMETHING every day. Cats are particularly susceptible to fatal liver disease called hepatic lipidosis, which is brought on by starvation. Show patience with your cat – sooner or later they’ll take to your new healthy meals and they’ll love you for it!

There are many good reasons for keeping your cat or cats inside these days. The outside world has changed dramatically in recent decades, and unless you live out in the countryside things can be much more dangerous for our furry friends.

Your cat is at risk of passing cars, fighting with other cats that are close by, getting diseases passed on by other cats. And that is just to name a few. The risks are many.

If you prefer to keep your cats inside then here are some helpful hints and tips.

The first thing to consider when setting up a ‘cat friendly’ home is to think about what their natural environment looks like. There would be lots of things that stimulate their senses including sight, smell and taste. You would see lots of greenery, water, live prey, challenging climbing structures.. and an ever changing environment.

So it is important for you to consider all this when you are making your home more cat friendly. If not properly thought out – indoor cats can develop physical and mental problems which are associated with their sedentary lifestyle. Things like over-grooming, eating disorders and urinary tract disease.

When you are creating your cat friendly home – here are some simple ways to make your home more interesting for your cat. Place items in the home such as food and water. Be sure to have a litter tray available. Scratching posts always go down well and can avoid your furniture getting scratched up as well!

Cats also love watching outside action from a safe vantage point. If you can provide your cats with a nice warm sunny windowsill to sit on and watch the action outside – they would appreciate this very much.

On the topic of safety – it is interesting to note that some cat experts do not agree with cat doors. While they may seem like a great idea for giving your feline a good sense of freedom – it can often cause mental stress to your cat. The reason is because your cat will see the cat door as a weak point in your house security. Your cat will come to recognise the sound of the cat door opening and closing. If will be constantly monitoring the door to ensure intruders aren’t entering their territory. So you may want to rethink the cat door idea.

Also, don’t brush off the idea of having two cats if you only have one. Providing a mate to play with is extremely beneficial to your cat – especially if you have a day job and have to leave the cat alone regularly. Cats get bored, just as we humans do – so consider getting them a buddy!

We have discovered some of the ways that you can create a healthy cat environment for your cat. There are many more that we haven’t covered here, but you can find the remaining tips and tricks in my FREE eCourse available to the right of this page. Sign up now!
